“Into the Woods” book by James Lapine, lyrics and music by Stephen Sondheim

“Into the Woods” tells the intricate tale of multiple fairy-tale characters crossing paths in the woods, not merely resolving the characters' dilemmas but also exploring what happens after happily ever after. When a baker and his wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy in the style of “The Princess Bride” becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

“Pinocchio” by John Morley

Pinocchio tells the tale of a poor carpenter, Geppetto, who lives by himself in the village of Collodi, and carves himself a puppet boy out of wood. Pinocchio, like other children, has a great deal to learn about life. He must earn the right to be real by proving that he is brave, truthful and unselfish, but even with the help of his conscience, Jiminy, a cricket, the marionette still goes astray. When he disobeys his father and runs away, he has a series of adventures that teach him those lessons in life, the most famous being that he shouldn't tell lies. When Pinocchio lies, his nose grows longer. Eventually, Pinocchio and Geppetto are reunited inside a big fish. Pinocchio promises to be good and he becomes a real boy and a real son. Great family entertainment for everyone.

“Rumors” A Farce by Neil Simon

America’s premier comic playwright delights audiences with this out and out funny offering. Four couples are at the townhouse of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. The party never begins because the host has shot himself in the head (it’s only a flesh wound) and his wife is missing. His lawyer’s cover up, gets progressively more difficult to sustain as the other guests arrive and nobody can remember who has been told what about whom. Doors slam and hilarity abounds as the couples get more and more crazed.

Auditions: January 12 and 14, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. in P9. All students auditioning must prepare a 1- to 2-minute monologue and sign up for an audition time on the AIS Theatre callboard.

Perusal scripts maybe signed out at the theatre office.

Performances: March 25, 26 and 27, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Lademacher Performing Arts Center (LPAC)
